July Cup of Capacity

When I think about my July guest, there are so many thoughts. She was impacting my life even before I was even aware of it and I know this is true for so many educators. Debbie Diller and I both worked in Alief ISD early in our careers. She is the person best-known for naming and supporting workstations (or centers) when it was a new idea. She has worked tirelessly over the years to support teachers and the staff who support them to understand how rich and wonderful both centers and small group instruction can be. November is for giving thanks! Malene Golding!

Malene Golding is the first interview on Cup of Capacity! Malene Golding is a wife and mother of 3, who is the founder of Golding Touch Education Consulting LLC, which provides critical professional development and job-embedded coaching in reading and writing instruction. She's also a Professor at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Malene is the Chair of the Texas Association for Literacy Educators and the former Director of Elementary Literacy in one of the largest public school systems in Texas.  When I was dreaming up this fun project-to introduce educators and their leaders to masterful people in the education community-I thought of Malene. She is a wonder. Malene is a deep thinker, a person who both understands the requirements of our current accountability system at all levels and has a profound knowledge of what learning needs to look like to best meet the needs of our children. So you want to get an advanced degree...

    There are a few things I have always known that I wanted for my life. I wanted to be a teacher and a principal. I wanted to be a wife and a mother. As I saw these wishes coming true, I had a new dream that I wanted just for myself and that was to obtain my doctorate degree. Today, I mailed out my final copy to my committee and I wanted to capture advice as I prepare for my defense in a few weeks.
